Nagaland highlights Connectivity Progress at India Mobile Congress 2024


New Delhi, October 15, 2024:

During the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, a delegation from Nagaland, led by Shri H. Sethrongkhyu Sangtam, Hon’ble Advisor of the Department of Information Technology & Communication (IT&C), Government of Nagaland, presented key developments in expanding connectivity across the state. The event, organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, in partnership with the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), saw over 250 companies and 400 startups, making it one of the largest telecom and digital technology events in Asia. Shri H. Sethrongkhyu Sangtam highlighted the progress under Nagaland’s 4G Saturation Project, which is bringing connectivity to the most remote parts of the state. He expressed gratitude for the immense community support that has been instrumental in overcoming the state's unique geographical challenges, including rugged terrain and limited infrastructure. A key highlight was the Right of Way (RoW) policy amendment, facilitating the seamless deployment of telecommunications infrastructure. Shri Sangtam also emphasized Nagaland’s embrace of 5G technology as the state progresses toward improving connectivity. 

In his address, Shri Sangtam commended the collaboration between the Government and local communities, where 277 villages donated land free of cost to accelerate the installation of telecom infrastructure. With the remaining uncovered villages set to receive connectivity under the 4G Saturation Project, Nagaland is positioning itself as a key player in India’s digital revolution, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. 

Shri Sangtam expressed his sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Hon'ble Union Minister, and the Department of Telecommunications for their continued support in transforming Nagaland’s connectivity landscape. 

Nagaland’s delegation to IMC 2024 included Shri Mohammed Ali Shihab (IAS), Commissioner & Secretary IT&C; Er. Sabou Yashu, Director IT&C; Er. Chura Katiry, Joint Director IT&C; Shri Vizosielie Semou, Program Officer IT&C; and Shri Athrili Anar, PA to the Hon'ble Advisor IT&C. 

During this event, Hon’ble  Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon’ble Minister of State Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, along with Chief Ministers, IT Ministers, and officials from various states across India, also attended the event, further enriching the discussions on the future of India’s telecom sector.
